Fancy an original, accessible and unforgettable activity in the heart of nature? Welcome to the Cévennes Rail Bike, a unique experience in the south of France, in the heart of the Cévennes National Park!
Imagine... You're pedalling gently along a century-old railway track on a strange contraption: a stable, silent and completely eco-friendly rail bike. Around you, the spectacular landscapes of the Cévennes valleys roll by: forests of holm oaks, impressive viaducts, mysterious tunnels and breathtaking panoramas.

Located on a section of the old railway line connecting Anduze to Saint-Jean-du-Gard, the rail bike takes you on a journey of discovery through an exceptional railway heritage... while pedalling at your own pace.
1. The Mescladou
Distance: 6.2 km round trip
Duration: Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy – suitable for all ages
Departures: Daily at 10:55 a.m. (except in summer)
Price: from €13 per person
Times: 10:55 a.m. and 2:25 p.m. on certain days (see calendar on the official website)
Highlights: crossing three viaducts, passing through two tunnels, breathtaking views of the Gardon River and the Mescladou Viaduct
2. The Viaducts
Distance: 10.2 km round trip
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours
Difficulty: Medium
Departures: 2:25 p.m. off-season, 5:55 p.m. in July and August
Price: €12.50 to €16
Timetable: 2:25 p.m. on certain afternoons (see calendar on the official website)
Highlights: discover the varied landscapes of the Cévennes, passing through several viaducts and tunnels
3. Cévennes'Fresh
Distance: 10.2 km (round trip)
Duration: approximately 2.5 hours
Difficulty: moderate, for experienced cyclists
Departure point: Thoiras station
Price: €13 to €18 (includes bike hire + welcome drink)
Times: 7:00 p.m. on 4, 7, 9, 11 and 14 July 2025
Highlights: evening ride with a stop for a picnic (not provided) and a complimentary drink
Safety & regulations
One adult (aged 18 or over) required per rail bike; maximum number of passengers determined by age
Minimum height: 1.20 m to sit on the front saddle
No smoking (fire hazard); maintain distance between vehicles, regular braking required
Prohibited: standing up, dismounting on the track, buffers, alcohol, inappropriate behaviour
Rail biking is not recommended for pregnant women due to possible vibrations.
The mandatory distance between each rail bike is 50 metres.
